Challenge

A global financial institution had deployed a newly built system, only to discover that it was unable to scale to cope with the increases in data volume required by the business.

The system – which they had spent nine months custom-building – played a major role within a time critical element of the institution’s trade services framework. The institution needed to tackle two key issues: increase scalability and reduce transaction latency and to protect their competitive advantage.

The Erudine Solution

As the Erudine Behaviour Engine can quickly adapt to any messaging formats the custom messaging protocols were rapidly accepted and understood. Once the message protocols were processed, the data flows in the system were monitored and, with minimal input from domain experts, the behaviour of the system was quickly captured and a ‘clone’ produced.

The client required that the new system would run on their existing hardware and within the existing infrastructure management environment. The EBE ‘clone’ was successfully
deployed and integrated into their infrastructure.

Straight out of the box, the EBE solved the scalability problem. As an enterprise-grade tool, EBE’s multi-threading scalability and fast execution speed dramatically improved system
performance.

Benefits
The modernisation process was completed within six weeks – a fraction of the nine months required for redevelopment by traditional developers – delivering a saving of almost 90%
when compared with a traditional approach.

The EBE cloned system significantly reduced transaction latency from 32ms to 8ms, a four-fold decrease on the existing traditionally coded system.

By utilising EBE the new system is fully scalable and, using the identical existing computing power, can process significantly more transactions. This enables the business to grow
without requiring additional investment in hardware or software.

The resulting EBE system retains the mental model of the required processes and therefore future changes can be achieved quickly and without risk as new business requirements arise.
