Challenge
A UK critical infrastructure system required more than 45 different legacy data sources to be migrated to a new system.
The client’s aggressive timescale needed work to begin quickly, yet did not have a finalised set of requirements. This paradox would have crippled a traditional approach, with the client forced to choose between long delays or expensive change requirements at the end of the project.
The challenge for Erudine was two-fold: overcoming both the lack of a finalised data schema; and accommodating the potential for change as real-world requirements evolved.
This needed to be achieved without major cost or time penalties.
The Erudine Solution
The Erudine Behaviour Engine (EBE) is able to adapt and evolve to changes in requirements, which enabled work to begin on this project before the final requirement document was available.
This allowed the data migration from each of the legacy systems to begin before the final data schema was confirmed, with any problems addressed with the domain expert early in the process.
EBE allowed an agile migration process, while significantly reducing the risk of the end deployment and ensuring the project was completed far earlier than possible with traditional technology.
Benefits
The project was delivered with almost 70% cost saving on the price estimated by a traditional IT technology, including change requirements.
During the project, EBE allowed the client to evolve their requirements confident that any changes could be incorporated without major cost and time penalties.
Because EBE allows on-going flexibility throughout the project, work was able to begin almost immediately. By deploying EBE, the project was completed three months after
the final requirements were confirmed. Had the project only commenced when the final requirements were confirmed, the project would have been delayed by a year beyond
the date achieved by Erudine.
